January 6, 2016: Way-Back Wednesday

When we lived in Pennsylvania, we didn’t do as much hiking – back then, we went for a hike maybe once a year, usually around the time of our wedding anniversary. I think the photos below were from our first “anniversary hike”, on our 5th anniversary, October 1, 1999.

Our hike of choice was always Hawk Mountain‘s River of Rocks trail, which is about 4 miles long. The main feature of this hike is a large boulder field in the valley. The Appalachian Trail passes through not far from there.

If you’re in the area and have kids (or not!), I highly recommend Hawk Mountain. They have lots of educational programs, and a raptor migration count in the fall.
